Severed Strands allows you to destroy a target creature controlled by an opponent, but first, you must sacrifice one of your own creatures as part of the cost. You'll gain life equal to the toughness of the creature you sacrificed, which can be a useful way to offset damage or stabilise your life total. This card is particularly effective in decks that generate tokens or have creatures with higher toughness, but the downside is that you’re losing one of your own creatures, which can leave you vulnerable, especially if you don't have a solid replacement or if the opponent's board is threatening.
