When you cast Prophetic Prism, you draw a card immediately, which helps you keep your hand full. You can then spend one generic mana and tap the Prism to add one mana of any colour, making it a flexible mana source for your spells. This is particularly useful in multicolour decks, but it does come with the downside of being a slow mana fixer; you'll have to wait until your next turn to use it again, and it can be vulnerable to removal.
