When you cast *Exotic Pets*, you create two 1/1 blue Fish tokens that cannot be blocked, allowing you to push through damage or set up an offensive without worrying about your opponents' blockers. Additionally, for each different type of counter on your creatures, you can add that same type of counter to one of these Fish tokens, potentially boosting their power or toughness if you're running a deck that utilises counters effectively. The main downside is that while the Fish are evasive, they start off as weak 1/1 creatures, so unless you have a variety of counters to enhance them, they may not contribute significantly to your board presence in the long run.
