Detainment Spell is an Aura that prevents the activated abilities of the enchanted creature from being used, effectively neutralising threats that rely on those abilities. Its flexibility allows you to attach it to a different creature by paying an additional cost, making it useful for controlling key opponents' creatures in a variety of strategies, particularly in control-oriented decks. However, it only addresses activated abilities, so it won't stop static effects or spells cast from hand.
