Where to sell Magic: The Gathering cards

Thinking of selling your Magic: The Gathering cards?

We get asked this fairly often at Vault of Cards. The honest answer is that we don't have a formal buying process — we're a small operation and cashflow doesn't always allow for it. But we'd hate to miss out on the right collection, so if you've got something to sell, feel free to get in touch and we'll take a look. No promises, but it's always worth a conversation.

In the meantime, here are the main options available in the UK if you want to sell your MTG cards, and what to realistically expect from each.

Your main options for selling MTG cards in the UK

eBay UK

The most flexible option. You can sell individual cards or whole collections, set your own prices, and reach a large UK audience. Fees are typically around 12-13% of the sale price. The main downside is the time involved — photographing, listing, packaging and posting individual cards. Works best for high-value singles where the margin justifies the effort. For bulk or low-value cards, it's rarely worth it.

Cardmarket

Cardmarket (formerly MagicCardMarket) is the biggest dedicated marketplace for trading card games in Europe and the go-to platform for UK MTG sellers. You list your cards at a price, buyers purchase directly from you, and you post them out. It takes some initial setup, but once you're up and running it's a solid way to sell singles at fair market prices. Best suited to anyone with a reasonably sized collection to list.

Facebook Marketplace and UK MTG groups

There are active MTG buying and selling groups on Facebook specific to the UK. Selling locally means no fees and no postage risk for local meetups, and you'll often get better prices than a buylist for bulk. Search for groups like "MTG UK Buy, Sell, Trade" to find them. The trade-off is time — you need to find interested buyers and negotiate individually.

Reddit

Reddit's r/magiccardmarket and r/magicTCG communities have active trading threads. Generally a fair marketplace with established trader feedback. Good for reaching players who know exactly what they want and understand card values.

Local game stores

Many LGS (local game stores) in the UK will buy collections, though they need to make margin so expect to receive around 30-50% of retail value. The upside is instant cash and no messing about with listings or postage. Worth ringing ahead to check — not all stores buy at all times.

What are your cards actually worth?

Before selling anywhere, it's worth knowing what you actually have. The vast majority of MTG cards — commons, uncommons, and many rares — are worth under £1 each. A small number of cards hold real value: reserved list cards, Commander staples, and cards from sought-after sets tend to command the best prices.

If you're thinking about getting back into Magic

Lots of people selling collections are also players who've had a break and are considering returning. If that's you, buying singles is almost always better value than buying packs or precons — you can pick exactly the cards you need for a fraction of the price.

We stock over 140,000 MTG singles with fast UK shipping. If you're building a deck or just picking up specific cards, browse our full MTG singles collection here.
